I went to Amsterdam! Missed a flight, ate space cake, and cursed with Swedish men.
I arrived at the Nashville airport at about 4:30 am on Saturday, December 20th, eyes full of glittering stars and heart bursting with excitement. In an hour and a half I would be flying to Europe for the first time.
Let me just preface this by saying that important trips never, ever, ever go according to plan.
The flight was long and exhausting. After an eight hour layover in New York, we took a redeye to Amsterdam and arrived at around 6 am cranky, hangry, and tired.
I’m not sure what exactly I expected. Maybe the scene from The Fault in our Stars, where Hazel and Gus walk along the water, and drink stars, and kiss in that sickeningly romantic way in the Anne Frank house.
